Ark of Man

An ancient hermit sees a vision of a future where the Earth is dying, but also a possible escape. He goes through a terrible ritual and takes on the weight of his entire tribe and their lifespans. A couple thousand years later he and others like him have added even more lives to their mass, and converge upon the site of an opening portal created by the scientists of an alternate Earth.
